10. Gaza- He Is Never Coming Back

This record is a slab of riff wizardy. It's crushingly heavy without falling into many of the cliches that plague most metal records nowadays. Plus, I'm a sucker for anti-religious rhetoric.

9. Make Do and Mend- Bodies of Water

I LOVE this record. The vocals are emotive without being whiny. The guitar is melodic and subtly intricate. MDAM have found a way to write music is the post-hardcore vein that keeps a solid grounding in the classics i.e. jawbreaker, HWM, etc. This record moves from frantic to hectic with relative ease. It is a must own.

8. Cult Ritual- 1st LP

I'm quite certain that there are many people who consider this the best LP of the year. While I do agree it's very good, I just don't think this even breaks into the top 5. It's fast and furious. I really do hope this style grows in popularity as I always love hardcore bands that aren't afraid to venture into punk at times.

7. Blacklisted- No One Deserves to Be Here More Than Me

This album marked a huge departure in sound for Blacklisted. In my eyes, they'll never top Heavier than Heaven. No One... is pretty awesome though. It has an awesome 90's alternative sound that lends itself well to George's vocals which are sung rather than screamed this time around. As usual, the lyrical fare involves depression and loneliness. If this album doesn't grab you after the first listen, you're not alone. Give it a few more spins, and I promise it will grow on you.

6. Foundation- Hang Your Head

The only thing that stops Hang Your Head from appearing later in this list is the general sound quality of this LP. HYH suffers from a general muddiness in its production that grates on my nerves every time I listen to this album. ATL's Foundation does a great job recreating the 90's metallic straight edge hardcore popularized by Trial and Strife. The lyrics are top notch and the vocals are engaging. However, they're often hard to make out and it seems they're not quite high enough in the mix. If this album was rerecorded and mixed properly, it would be perfect.

5. Chuck Ragan- Gold Country

Chuck Ragan is the best singer songwriter in the game right now. This album is an amazing slice of folk that proves that HWM's success wasn't a fluke. Ragan does this better than the thousands of other americana artists getting jocked by hipsters nationwide.

4. Title Fight- The Last Thing You Forget

This band could be the next Saves the Day. That's my loftiest pop punk praise. I haven't heard a pop punk album as good as this in years. It's like being in high school all over again. Title Fight > Bad Seed... Just sayin'

3. Converge- Axe to Fall

Converge gets better with every album. This band is pushing the boundaries of heavy music. I can't wait to see what they do next. Converge superfan right here.

2. Iron Age- The Sleeping Eye

If you don't want to headband and circle pit when you listen to this album, you're some sort of robot from the galaxy of the squares. This band makes epic, evil as fuck thrash that will get you stoned just from listening to it. Every song on this album is a perfect mix of 80's riffage and a certain occult influence that draws to mind early Integrity.

1. Touche Amore- ...To the Beat of a Dead Horse

Kyle was right when he said that this is the only album to be considered for the number one spot. The first time I heard this LP, I had to listen to it at least five times. It's like American Nightmare had a child with Saetia. I have yet to see this band live and I'm kicking my own ass because of it. Touche Amore will make some of the best albums of the new millenium.

I could write pages about this band. They were a melodic hardcore group from my hometown of Johnson City. All of my earliest show experiences involved seeing this band play at venues all around Eastern Tennessee. Jake Moore wrote some of my all time favorite lyrics for this band. The Benedict EP would be one of my desert island discs. I love IROM. They should have been famous.

In honor of my first post on this blog, I thought I'd share one of my favorite current bands. Revenge definitely tends to lean toward the punk side of hardcore, but their music is accessible and catchy. The vocals sounds desperate and gritty. The lyrics are cheesy, but I still dig them. I'm excited to hear so many new bands lately that aren't just playing the same recycled earth crisis riffs I've heard 5000 times.

I'm not exactly sure why I'm posting this. I don't even know if anyone will enjoy listening to it. Stunt Rock is the project of William Flegal, basically a bunch of electronic sequencing and sampling. This shit is depressing, but worth a listen.
